At the age of 6 years old, Matt received a beginners’ drum kit from his parents. Inspired by watching Led Zeppelin, Phil Collins & Sting on TV Matt began playing the drums for the first time. Throughout his time at school, he was in various bands ranging from Jazz, Latin to Rock n Roll. After graduating high school, he discovered hardcore and joined Australian hardcore band ‘MadisonFoxx‘ which quickly exposed him to touring as a support for The Amity Affliction, The Getaway Plan, Buried In Verona and more.
In 2012 he was invited to join, ‘Bombs Away’ one of Australia’s biggest electronic acts at the time with multiple platinum & gold records. He was straight onto the stage performing on national tours, sold out shows and playing main stage sets on some of the countries’ biggest festivals including Stereosonic, Future Music & Fat As Butter.
In August 2014 SkullClub was formed, a concept project involving live drums, guitar, keys & controllers. After creating a series of YouTube videos, Johnny Third & Matt McGuire released an EP worldwide entitled ‘Monsters’ distributed by Sony Music. The EP peaked #2 on the iTunes Electronic Charts.
The official Matt McGuire Drums YouTube Channel was created in 2012 as an outlet while on tour to play whatever genre he desired & a chance to re-watch himself to spot room for improvement. This channel very quickly grew with his videos reaching into the millions & receiving reviews and posts on Reddit.Com, YourEDM, EDM.Com, EDM Sauce & various other significant tastemaker media outlets. Matt’s videos have also received recognition from multiple big name artists worldwide including, The Chainsmokers, Skrillex, Alan Walker, Knife Party, The Amity Affliction, In Hearts Wake, Nero, Example & many more.
June 11th, 2016 - Matt McGuire launched his debut live show. A unique live concept show which consists of a 1 hour set playing live drums to heavy dubstep, trap & drum n bass combined with precise lighting production. A fresh and unique take on the EDM live scene, it is a visually exciting show appealing to fans of both EDM and metal genres with Matt’s seamless fusion of live & electronic elements.
Fast forward just a few months and Matt’s unique & exciting brand is grabbing the attention of some of the world’s biggest acts across multiple genres including The Chainsmokers, Alan Walker, Marshmello, Barely Alive, Virtual Riot, Slushii to name just a few. With invites to play all corners of the globe and offers to collaborate & tour with some amazing artists, 2017 has seen him join The Chainsmokers live band for their 40 show North American arena tour. On March 23rd he also released an exclusive original song in collaboration with metal/EDM guitarist Sullivan King which was named ‘Best Dubstep Track of 2017’ by influential blog YourEDM.
